Donald Trump, the owner of Miss Universe, recently overruled Miss Universe Canada's decision when it disqualified Jenna Valackova, a post-operative transsexual since age 19 from competing at the annual beauty pageant.

The Canadian organization disqualified Valackova stating that she lied about being transsexual on her application and that the international rules clearly state that you must be born female in order to compete at the international pageant.

Trump said that each countryhaddock their own definition of what a naturally born female is and because of this Valackova should be allowed to enter her countries pageant. The USA also shares a similar rule.

With that said, does this mean that an American citizen who is a post-operative transsexual can compete for the title of Miss USA? Will Donald Trump stick to his word? Are there transsexuals in America interested in competing?

Finally, it doesn't mean that the contest will be fair. She has to win a local or a state title first and who says a state like Texas, for example, will actually crown a transsexual as their titleholder.

Would love to hear feedback.

At the end of the day, I wouldn't put it past Donald Trump to make this a ratings bonanza! Let me be the first to say that she'll win Canada and make it into the top 12 at Miss Universe. Are you kidding? That pageant will be the highest rated Miss Universe in HISTORY!

If anything I think ratings will be down. The right wing conservatives will take this and run and then your southern baptist beauty queens won't compete.

The southern bapist beauty queen -sees the crown- wants the crown- and will do whatever it takes to get the crown.

This is ridiculous. What would happen if a former Miss USA decided she wanted to do Miss Gay USofA in April. You all would be on here saying that isn't fair. This person was not born a woman simple as that.

Furthermore she lost all credibility when she hired that bloated windbag Gloria Alred to be her lawyer.

100% agree. This is just a can of worms that didn't need to be open.

Wow...none of you understand what it is to be a trailblazer. If our Forefathers thought this way, we'd all be singing "God Save the Queen" (and I'm talking the real one!!!! LOL!). Come on, is everyone supposed to stay cowered in their closets and not be brave enough to stand up and say "I'm here and you have to accept who I am."? I know for a fact that those who stood in the forefront of the Stonewall Riots are applauding (whether they still be with us or departed).

And what is wrong with a sex-change competing for a "gay" title? There have been those who have done so already. I say go for it!

I'm all for equality, if this is even an equality issue. My point is do we really want to spend our political capital on a pageant? To me a tranny entering a pageant is not the most important fight of the day. Of course I think she should be able to be in the pageant, but there are priorities

No longer a fan of Gloria Allred. She is turning this story into a 3 ring circus and an argument with Trump. Now she wants the rule changed for the entire world. She says, if your passport/birth certificate/license says FEMALE then you should be allowed to compete. A transsexual can still have male genatalia and have these items changed if a doctor states she is female. Where is the line drawn?

I'm not particularly a fan of Gloria's either but I applaud her tenacity in defending the rights of those who need representation. As for our community needing advancement, however we can make in-roads is a step in the right direction. Equality is equality whether it be in marriage, status or pageantry. When we receive another chance to be included as equal in any way is better than still being in the shadows.
