Double-ImpactIf 2012 was the Year of the Penis — and by our account, it was — 2013 is the Year of the Butt. A hard-hitting article from The New York Times reports a rise in men getting butt surgery.

Those cheeks are getting lifted, separated and injected with belly fat in record numbers. And the main reason for the perceived trend: as men get older they’re losing fat in their fatties.

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery found that 6.2 percent of cosmetic buttock procedures done in 2012 were on men; that’s up from just 2.2 percent in 1997.

Interestingly enough, the subject of the Times’ groundbreaking work isn’t a Chelsea gogo boy or Scott Thorson, but a 46-year-old straight man from Virginia. A contractor, to be precise; married with four kids.

“When I went in to the doctor, I said, ‘I’m not a girl so I’m not worried about having a table back there you could sit a coffee cup on,’” Jeff Vickers told the NYT. “I just wanted to be able to put on a pair of pants and for them to stay up.”

Meanwhile, we all know how addictive plastic surgery can be. Next thing you know Vickers has got the Nicki Minaj Special and is twerking with Ciara on a spaceship.

Along with this fanny fixation comes the increased popularity of butt-lifting underwear — for those perhaps unwilling to go under the knife to make their derrière dreams come true.

According to Freshpair president Matthew Butlein, Freshpair’s buttocks-enhancing underwear accounts for more than six percent of its men’s underwear sales, up from less than one percent five years ago. Butlein also added that this is due to the trend of slimmer pants on men. Some trends really do God’s work.

While GQ may have succinctly passed on the implant trend, what do you think? Are butt implants an option, particularly for the bootyliciousless, or do you draw the visible panty line at buttocks-enhancing underwear?
